Deriva – Handmade Steel Human Figure Sculpture
Drifting is a silent movement. It doesn't stem from a sudden choice, but from the accumulation of invisible forces that, over time, alter our direction.
In this work, the body appears suspended between rootedness and dissolution. One part of the figure still maintains its integrity, while the other opens into filaments that are dragged away, like thoughts, memories, or possibilities slowly separating from what we once were. The upward gaze expresses not resistance, but awareness: the acceptance of a change already underway.
The material seems to yield without breaking. The voids, openings, and ramifications emerging from the torso suggest a profound transformation, a process that acts from within and progressively redefines the form.
Drift speaks of those moments when life moves us away from familiar coordinates. Not as a loss, but as a transition. It is the image of a being who, while navigating uncertainty, continues to exist and transform, propelled by currents that they don't fully control but which contribute to leading them towards a new version of themselves.
